Before you begin.
Some answers, before the first conversation.
What happens in a first session?
The first session is primarily a conversation: what brought you in, what you hope will change, and what kind of support may be useful. You are not expected to arrive with a perfect explanation.
How confidential are sessions?
Confidentiality is a core part of the therapeutic relationship, subject to applicable professional, legal and safeguarding requirements. The practitioner's final confidentiality policy should be published here.
Can I share a client story?
Yes, but only with clear, informed permission and appropriate protection of identifying information. No story should be published without the client's explicit authorization.
Can sessions happen online?
Online sessions can be offered where appropriate. The final site should specify availability, platform, fees and any location or professional requirements that apply.
What if I am not sure therapy is for me?
You do not need to decide everything before reaching out. A first conversation can simply be a chance to understand the process and decide whether the fit feels right.
What if I need urgent help?
If you are in immediate danger or experiencing an emergency, contact your local emergency service or an appropriate crisis service rather than waiting for a therapy appointment.
